5 of the Coolest Things at Sea Otter 2010

I didn't make it back down there, choosing to race P2A instead, but I did see a lot of cool stuff going on there via the interweb

5. REDESIGNED Crank Brothers Egg Beaters
Stronger axles and cartridge bearings instead of bushings should improve durability.  Also, to combat the play that accompanies wearing cleats there is a rubber shim system that looks to be better than using duct tape!

4. New Bontrager Road Tires
Lighter, faster and stronger.  There is now a tubeless model which should help tubeless road take off and encourage more people to try it.

The coolest thing in the lineup is the addition of the Aerowing which helps to make a smoother transition from the side of the tire to the rim.

3. Ergon TP1 Cleat Adjustment Tool
Not a new product, but Ergon has expanded the line to include Keo and Crank Bros cleats.  This is a great product for replacing worn cleats without losing cleat position and could save you much time off due to injuries from a shifted cleat.

2. Sram X0/X9 10 Speed groups
Sram brought 2x10 to the go fast crowd with the uber-light, uber-expensive XX group.  Next they introduced 10 speed to the more recreational crowd with the X7 group.  X0 and X9 bring 10 speed to everyone in between!  It should be a little more affordable than XX and still at crazy light weights!!

Several color options will appeal to the customizers...

Not much different looking in the shifters....

1. Pros racing 29ers!!!
Many pros raced 29ers at some point during the weekend.  And not just the usual suspects from the Fisher team.  Todd Wells is not new to racing it, but his teammates Burry and Christoph raced them for the first time.  Burry liked it so much he raced it again the next weekend at the first World Cup!!  Also, Roel Paulissen raced a Flash 29er to a fifth place finish despite a stomach bug!

JHK chose the dualie for the bumpy and fast course...

The 2 Specialized 29ers worked over Kabush to take the win
