Oxnard No. 10 in USA Well Being
Crusing the LA Times yesterday I found this article about well being. The Gallup-Healthways survey of well-being in the United States aims to provide a map of the United States' mental and physical health contours, and is updated annually.
A little about the survey and how they came up with this ...
"Surveying a random and representative sample of residents from each state and city, Gallup surveyers measured "well-being" by asking respondents to evaluate
(1) their life situation, now and five years from now;
(2) their emotional health, including whether they smile and laugh frequently, have stimulating hobbies or interests, feel they are treated with respect, and how much anger, sadness or stress they feel;
(3) their work environment and whether it is open and trusting, allows them to use their talents, whether their supervisor is reasonable;
(4) their physical health, including obesity, chronic illnesses or disabilities, whether they get enough rest or have daily pains; and
(5) their health behaviors, such as smoking, eating healthfully, getting exercise;
(6) their level of access to basic health needs, such as clean water, medicine, health insurance and healthcare, a safe place to exercise, money for and access to healthful food, and shelter.
This year of the 185 cities surveyed, 4 California coastal cities were in the top 10!!! Santa Rosa was found to be the nation's fifth most well city; down the coast a bit, Santa Barbara was sixth and San Jose seventh. Oxnard came in at No. 10.
Oxnard is where we are located and Santa Barbara is just 45min up the coast from us. We definitely have been enjoying Oxnard and trips to SB are my favorite! I've gone on record as saying SB is my favorite city I've been to in terms of desire to live there long term. Most of the people we've met in both Ventura County and Santa Barbara County have seemed happier than the average and seem top be much more willing to say hi and converse with us.
What's not to love, friendly people, awesome beaches and epic mountains all around you, there's always something to do here.
